“Guess you didn’t get eaten the way you wanted, eh?” ― Peter ClinesEx-Heroes

To those who like superheroes and AMC’s The Walking Dead (and pretty much anything with zombies in it), then Peter Clines’ “Ex-Heroes” is something that will be thoroughly enjoyed. A page-turner from the start, Clines gives life to his already unique, interesting, and oh-so-real characters with short flashbacks to when they first discovered their powers.
We all think superheroes are invulnerable individuals who adroitly dish out justice to wrongdoers and villains. Clines shows us that sometimes the biggest evil his heroes face are the ones delving on the inside; guilt, shame, sorrow. Love lost.

Los Angeles is a barren wasteland and the dead are walking the streets, moaning, craving the flesh of the living. Well, craving the flesh of the few who happen to have stalled their fate for the time being. The dead aren’t the only ones with inhuman appetites they wish to satisfy; among them are fallen heroes and darker beings of death’s harbingers. Nothing is as it seems and around every corner danger is imminent, waiting patiently for its prey to come blundering into its decayed, dirty, yellow-teethed and clawing embrace…welcome to what was once civilization; you have now reached the point of no return.

Finding sanctuary in ramshackle buildings, a small community of humans have found safe haven. Leading that community is Stealth, a lethal assassin who has more to hide behind her mask other than her exotic beauty. Her second-in-command, The Mighty Dragon, is a man with a haunted past struggling to understand his emotions towards the woman he follows. Joining them in this battle royal of fists, bullets, blood, and explosions are Cerberus – a hard-hitting robotic battle suit piloted by an individual who knows how to handle herself, Zzzap – a mutant whose entire body is consumed by electromagnetic energy, Regenerator, and Gorgon – all of which bring their own special abilities and powers to the fore as they fight it out to the last man standing.
